What is a TEFL Teacher?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It refers to teaching English to people who are not native and speak another language.

Job Description

You will be teaching classes online with our partner school, located in Beijing, China.

As an EFL (English Foreign Language) teacher, you will be provided with a range of course books and materials, and it will be your main role to help students converse with each other by applying the skills and vocabulary they’ve previously learnt.  You will be helping them to improve on the four principle language components of listening, speaking, reading and writing English. You will place a strong emphasis on conversation and speech, using formal activities, language games and reading materials. Most classes that you teach will be one-on-one, however some group lessons may be required. Full training will be provided as part of your onboarding process.

Currently there are more than one billion people learning English as a foreign language around the world and this number is expected to double in the next 3 years. The majority of students live in non-English speaking countries and due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the demand for online English classes has never been higher.

Do I have to speak a second language to teach English?

No, for this position you are not required to speak a foreign language.

You will speak English at all times during lessons to help students become fully immersed in the language. You may be encouraged to learn a few simple phrases of the student’s own language, to greet and introduce yourself. However, you certainly won’t need to be fluent. It’s far more important that students be fully engrossed in the English language.

Requirements

• Native English Speaker
• Hold a bachelor’s degree or above (any subject)
• TEFL Certification
• Internet speed: Upload 3 Mbps. Download 20 Mbps
• At least 1-year teaching experience preferred
